Why Have An Air Filter Anyway

The reason we use AIR FILTERS in our central air systems is to take the dust and dirt out of the air. The AIR FILTER has to do two things; it has to let the air pass through and at the same time filter out the dirt.

There are two reasons to filter the air; one is to clean the air you breathe, thereby improving the indoor air quality (IAQ) in your home and the other is to keep the coil clean that transfers the heat. When the unit is in cooling mode the heat is being transferred out of your home through the coil and when the unit is in the heating mode, heat is being transferred into your home through the coil. Dirty coils can reduce the heat transfer efficiency by 20% to 30% below the designed efficiency. This also means that the unit runs longer in order to satisfy the demand. Longer run time means more electricity or gas and higher utility bills.
